Description:

This antique rectangular box has had the privilege of bearing the artistry of the famous Fedoskino artist, Sergey Rogatov, since he painted it in 1962. The artist was nominated to join the Artist Union of USSR in 1964. Worked at the Fedoskino factory of miniature art since 1939. In 1969 he began working as a teacher at the Fedoskino School. Today, his works are on display in various museums and lacquer art books. The composition is painted in the realistic style. It shows an elk-cow and its kid resting on the meadow. It's an evening the setting sun lights the surrounding landscape with its golden rays. The scene is touching and poignant. Rogatov creates a wonderful forest landscape in his own style. The interior of the lid includes the following dedicatory inscription: "To G.A. Betekhtin in honor of the twentieth anniversary of victory over Fascist Germany, 9.05.65. The edges of the lid and the box's sides are decorated with elegant gold patterns. The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while bright red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge has been fastened to the left of the composition, and the box rests on four round legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, village and year (1962).
