Icon-painter. Miniaturist. Restorer. Pedagogue.
Nikolai Klykov was born in 1861 to the family of icon-painters in Mstera. Worked in Mstera (1877-1892) and Moscow (1892- 1918) icon-painting studios. Taught icon-painting in the Trinity-St. Sergious Lavra (1902-1906) and then in the Moscow Stroganov Art School (1908-1909).
Restored early Russian paintings (1992-1922). Co-founder of the "Old Russian Painting Artel" (1923) as well as the Mstera lacquered miniature painting school, where he taught miniature painting. Gold Medal winner of the Paris World's Fair (1937). Member of the USSR Union of Artists since 1940.
