Kochupalov Alexey Dmitriyevich (1940 - ...)  Click to play

Born in the Chefrak Hamlet (in the Krasnodar Region), Alexey Kochupalov studied at the Palekh Art School from 1956-1961. He worked at the Palekh Art Workshops from 1961-1989. Kochupalov has been a member of the Artists' Union since 1966, and received the Lenin Komsomol Prize in 1970. He became a Merited Artist of the RSFSR in 1974, and a People's Artist of the RSFSR in 1985.

Themes of his work include literature, genre scenes, and contemporary subjects ("Prince Igor", "Marya Morevna", "The Water Nymph", "The Sowers"). Kochupalov has exhibited since 1964, and his works are now held in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the Plyos State Historico-Architectural and Art Museum-Preserve, the State Russian Museum, and the Art Foundation of Russia. In addition to lacquer miniature, the artist has also done mural painting.
