Description:
This splendid chest created by Oleg Yastrebov, a Fedoskino artist who has his own special style. Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland", has been chosen as a theme for this work. Each of the box's sides shows Alice in various situations happened in the tale.
The work is painted in light tones typical for all Yastrebov's works. Some more typical traits of Yastrebov style can be found here. For instance, application of shining, multicolored spangles that can be found in each of the depicted scenes; and gold metal powder used as underlayer for the oils that helps to attract light to the work, and to create a magic atmosphere.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the box. The lid is hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed by the artist.
