Description:
This historical view of Cathedral Square inside the Moscow Kremlin features the Archangel Cathedral, constructed between 1505 and 1508. Victories of the Russian military were celebrated in there and Russian tsars and grand princes were buried within the cathe- dral until the 17th century. Their tombs are now one of the focal points of the interior along with majestic iconostases. This composition features a stunning scene that has an aged feeling to it. Muted colors mixed with moderate amounts of gold paint and mother-of-pearl add the perfect touch to this detailed and realistic composition, created by Shevalkin of Fedoskino.
