Description:
This beautiful five-side box features the popular tale of the Humpbacked Little Pony. The diminutive but lovable horse proves to be an incredible companion, able to fly and perform other sorts of magic and aids Ivan in winning the hand of the princess.
The box depicts several scenes from the tale. On the front are the two mares Ivan goes to sell. The back shoes the majestic horse which visits Ivan and promises him the Humpbacked Pony. On one side, Ivan is presenting the tsar with the Firebird, and on the other side presenting the Maiden Queen, both of which the Pony helped him catch. On the lid is the triumphant victory of Ivan after the greedy tsar tried to have Ivan killed.
A highly skilled artist, Bogdanov executes the various scenes beautifully, blending one into the other seamlessly and incorporating small details that bring the story together well (such as the traditional tent of the Maiden Queen in the background of her scene). The decoration is ornate but not overbearing and the colors are vibrant and rich.
