A delicious treat in Russian cuisine, mushrooms are often gathered in forests outside villages. This basket is filled to the brim with all sorts of mushrooms. Sokolova of Fedoskino gives us a unique view in this scene, with the table askance from the perspective in the rest of the scene for artistic effect. The gold and blue palette of the scene works well with the theme, and mother-of- pearl adds even more depth and color. There is a beautiful extra composition on the back of the piece in gray paint with gold detailing of some mushrooms and shrubs. Box made from papier-mache, signed and dated by artist.
