Igor Isaev is of a generation of Fedoskino artists that is currently in their prime of painting, in both their skill and imagination. Isaev's works are featured in many books on lacquer miniature art, and his name is specifically mentioned in several texts. The following are some excerpts.
In "Russian Lacquer Miniature Art The Nina Kaufman Gallery", Nekrasova refers to Isaev's "Pushkin Going for A Walk", a spectacle case from 1999: "The most delicate treatment of the pictorial layer and gold powder added to paints produce the impression of airiness and light."
In Krestovskaya's "Fedoskino Lacquered Miniatures", she discusses Isaev and his peers thus: "Traditional Fedoskino ornamentation of boxes reached extraordinary heights in the 1980s and 1990s. Today's Fedoskino skan' is incomparably richer than Lukutin's artless designs. Using a limited set of figured metal spangles - tiny circles, corners, crescents and stars - latter-day craftsmen create an unlimited number of ornaments inscribed on the round or oval lid of a box, girdling its prominent sides or just framing paintings... Younger painters, too, are mastering this exceedingly painstaking technique. Moshchevitin, Isaev and A. Fedorov use skan' to frame their miniatures, making their pieces especially expressive and decorative."
She goes on to write, "Many contemporary Fedoskino painters experiment with form. Thus, Dmitri Rogatov created a fascinating tall rectangular case for a perfume flask... Elegant, whimsically shaped boxes by N.V. Strelkina (Burbysheva), I.A. Isaev and A.I. Kuznetsov are no less eye-catching."
Isaev's works featured in this book include "At A Fabric Shop" (1993) and "Tea Drinking" (1992).
In the 1995 Fedoskino catalog, Isaev's "Selecting a Bride", "Daughter-in-Law", "At the Gate", "In the Textile Store", and "Bell Ringers" are featured.
