Shapkin Oleg Ivanovich (1955 - ...)  Click to play

Shapkin Oleg Ivanovich was born in 1955 in the town of Svobdny, Amur Region. Now he resides in the village of Semenishchevo, Moscow Region.
In 1974 the artist finished the Fedoskino Art School, where he studied under Larishev G.I. and Davydov P.S. Continued his education in the Repin Institute (St. Petersburg) and graduated from it in 1987. On graduating from the Repin Institute the artist wrote the book “Combination of styles in the Fedoskino lacquered miniature" and submitted his graduation project on this theme.
Oleg Ivanovich is a laureate of the Artist's Union Prize of USSR (1985). Participant of different exhibitions in Russia and abroad since 1977. His works are exhibited in different museums such as the State Russian Museum, the Hermitage (St. Petersburg), the Moscow Regional Art Museum situated in the town of Istra and the State Historical Museum.
O.I. Shapkin's major works: "Dream" (1995), "Pushkin and Gypsies" (1994).
Oleg Ivanovich paints his works in the style of Fedoskino lacquered miniature, using oil paints and lacquer. Themes of his works are various, but most of all he likes to depict genre scenes.
The artist uses in painting his own technical methods. His works can be easily recognizable by individual manner of painting and untraditional building of composition.
Painting of the Renaissance and the Classicism epochs and also Russian realism had a great influence on the artist’s creative work.
Oleg Ivanovich is married to a famous Fedoskino artist Galina Nikolaevna Kareva (1954). Their son Kiril is also a painter.
In his free time the artist likes to travel and draw.
