Valentin Fomin was born in Yuzha, not far from Kholuy, in 1930. He studied at the Kholuy Art School from 1947-1950, and then began working at the Kholuy Lacquer Miniature Factory. A member of the RSFSR Artists' Union since 1967, Fomin has participated in many exhibitions.
Fomin's works of note include "Taras Bulba" (1952), "Sadko" (1952), "The Tale of the Urals" (1954), "Russians Overseas" (1957), Who Can be Happy in Russia" (1957), "The Fair" (1959), "Stone Flower" (1963), "The Crystal Lake" (1967), and "The Mound" (1980).
