Prokofieva Irina Ivanovna was born in 1956 in the village of Kolobovo, Ivanovo Region. Now the artist resides in the village of Kholuy, Ivanovo Region.
In 1975 Irina Ivanovna finished the Kholuy Art School. Her teachers were Semenov A.I., Abzyanov A.V., Kolganova L.I.
I.I. Prokofieva’s diploma work was a composition entitled “A Soldier”.
At present Irina Ivanovna works at the Kholuy Craft Workshops.
The artist paints in the style of Kholuy lacquered miniature, using tempera paints. She paints on a variety of themes, but prefers to depict fairy-tales and landscapes.
It’s easy to recognize I.I. Prokofieva’s works owing to peculiar painting technique and high quality of execution.
The artist thinks her personal painting technique is “plav along damp surface” (plav – a liquid layer of paint applied to all the elements of the composition). She paints her miniatures in bright and mellow colors.
Irina Ivanovna can’t say how long it takes her to paint a composition; everything depends on a box size and a subject’s complexity.
