Born in the village of Mstera, in the family of icon-painters and restorers.
Worked in icon-painting studios in Moscow. Painted murals for churches. Engaged in restoration work (1903-1919, 1925-1931, 1937-1948).
Was the 1st to join "Old Russian Painting Artel" (1923-1925). Founder of the Mstera lacquered miniature painting school. Teacher of miniature painting at the Mstera Vocational Art School (1932-1937).
Gold Medal winner of the Paris World's Fair (1937). Member of the USSR Union of Artists since 1940.
