Born on February 21, 1935, in the village of Palekh, Valentina Astakhova studied at the Palekh Art School from 1951-1956. She worked at the Palekh Art Workshops until her death on February 2, 1976. The themes of her works included literature and genre scenes particularly, with titles such as "How Steel was Welded", "Merchant Kalashnikov", and "Shrovetide".
Astakhova exhibited since 1960. Her works are now held in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum, the Krasnoyarsk Art Museum, and the State Museum of the Revolution.
