Bakanov Georgy Mikhailovich was born in 1881 in the village of Palekh in Vladimir Province, where he lived until his passing in 1928. In 1925 Georgy Mikhailovich was employed by the Artel of Ancient Painting in Palekh, where he worked under Ivan Golikov, the founder and director of the Artel.
The artist was interested in painting on the themes of literature and genre scenes. Main works by Georgy Mikhailovich are "Tractor driver", "Ruslan and Ludmila", "With Hens", and "Couple".
The painter's most popular lacquered miniatures have been exhibited since 1926. Some Russian museums have Bakanov's works in their rich collections, among them the State Museum of Palekh Art, State Tretiyakov Gallery, and Russian Museum of Crafts and Arts and Folk Art.
