Galina Romanovna Belousova was born in 1960 in Palekh, one of the centers of Russian lacquer miniature art, in the Ivanovo Region. Galina began attending the Palekh Art School when she was 17, and graduated in 1982. She studied under such masters as Brovkin and Nemtinov. In 1989 Belousova was nominated to join the Artist Union. After that she was employed by the Palekh Art Works, where Belousova currently works.
Galina prefers to paint on the themes of folklore, literature, and genre scenes, as well as biblical and romantic themes. The titles of her best pieces are "The Meeting in the Forest", "How One Peasant Could Feed Two Generals", "Morozko", "Snowmaiden", and "Saturday".
Galina paints using the traditional tempera paints, and also does much of her own lacquering. Galina believes her artwork is most noted for her compositional design. When Galina begins work on a piece, she tries to "dynamically depict a thought with colors", and to make her art "flow". Her color palette differs from scene to scene, as she has no one preference, including warm or cold colors. Galina has her own "small personal, secret techniques" for painting. Galina hopes people will remember her work for its thin, delicate painting, her themes in art, and the overall quality of her work.
Works by Galina Romanovna have been exhibited since 1983. Such museums as the State Museum of Palekh Art and the Arts Fond of Russia have many prominent pieces by this artist in their collections. When she is not painting, Galina loves to read, and she likes sports and other art forms. She wishes "understanding" to admirers of her work.
