Valentina Butorina was born in 1940 in Lomy, in the Ivanovo Region. She has been a member of the Artists' Union since 1980. Butorina studied at the Palekh Art School from 1956-1961, and has been employed at the Palekh Art Works since her graduation.
The themes of her work include folklore and literature ("Red Sails", "The Lady-Servant Maid", "Friend, Come to My House", "Mashenka is Not Allowed to Cross the River", and "Dynya Owned the Ferry"). Butorina's works are in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the State Russian Museum, the All-Russia Museum of Decorative and Applied Art, and the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum.
