Born in 1927 in the village of Balevichi (in the Mogilev Region of Byelorus), Alexander Gordeev passed away in the village of Palekh in 1990. He studied at the Palekh Art School from 1951-1956, where his teachers were I.P. Vakurov and N.M. Zinovyev. Gordeev was a member of the Artists Union since 1965, and taught at the Palekh Art School from 1976-1990.
His works were often on the themes of folklore and contemporary subjects, and titles included "The Attack", "Ivanushka and Vasilisa the Beautiful", "Matusha Pepelnoy", "Oleko Dundich", "Russian Bogatyrs", and "March Bravely, Comrades". Gordeev exhibited since 1956, and his works are now held in multiple museums: the State Museum of Palekh Art, the State Russian Museum, the Art Foundation of Russia, the Tambov Regional Picture Gallery, the Museum of T.G. Shevchenko Memorial Complex, and the Irkutsk Regional Art Museum.
