Ivan Kamanin was born in 1930 in the village of Novoselki, and passed away in 1964 in the village of Palekh. He had studied at the Palekh Art School from 1945-1950 during a rebuilding time after the war. He then was employed at the Palekh Art Workshops from 1953 on. By 1956, Kamanin had become a member of the Artists' Union.
Themes of this works included folklore and literature, and some of his pieces were "The Demon", "Russian Legends", "Russian Proverbs", and "Tale of Tsar Saltan." His works were exhibited since 1954, and many are now held in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the State Museum of Ethnography of Peoples of Russia, the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum, and the Kursk Regional Picture Gallery.
