Sergey Kamanin was born in 1962 in the village of Palekh. His father was Ivan Kamanin, another Palekh miniaturist. Sergey studied at the Palekh Art School from 1977-1982, where his teachers were V.I. Golov and V.M. Khodov. He joined the Palekh Art Workshops following his graduation, and became a member of the Artists' Union in 1989.
The themes of his works are predominantly folklore, and two of his best works are called "The Battle" and "Ivan Tsarevich and the Gray Wolf". Kamanin has participated in exhibitions since 1985, and his works are held in the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.
