Yevlampiy Karovanin was born in 1906 in the village of Palekh, where he later died. Karovanin was a member of the Artel of Ancient Painting, and was taught by A.I. Vatagin. Karovanin mostly painted chinaware, in addition to lacquer miniature. Themes of his works were folklore, literature, and genre scenes, with pieces such as "The Psaltery Player", "Musicians", "Going to the Sorochinskaya Fair", and "The Princess Frog". Karovanin began exhibiting in 1933, and some of his works are now kept in the State Museum of Palekh Art.
