Sergey Khazov was born in 1884 in Moscow, and died in the village of Palekh in 1936. Worked at A.A. Glazunov's Workshop in Moscow, and joined the Artel of Ancient Painting in 1930s. Themes of his works included literature, history, and genre scenes ("Prince Serrebryany", "Yermak's Campaign", "Stepan Razin", ""Old Ulin and his Daughter"). His works were shown in exhibitions since 1934, and many are now on display in the State Museum of Palekh Art and the Zagorsk State Historico-Art Museum-Preserve.
