Kotukhin Vladimir Vasiliyevich (1897 - 1957)  Click to play

Born in Palekh in 1897, Vladimir Kotukhin studied at the instructional studios of the Committee of Trusteeship of Russian Icon Painting from 1908-1914. He later worked at the studio of the Belousov Brothers. Kotukhin was one of the founders of the Artel of Ancient Painting, established in 1924.

The themes of his works included folklore, literature, and genre scenes. Titles included "Balda", "The Lays of Olden Times", "The Harvest", "The Batying Maiden", "Ornament", "The Little Shepherd", "Ruslan and Ludmila", and "Tale of Tsar Saltan". Kotukhin began exhibiting in 1924, and his works are now held in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the All-Russia Museum of Decorative and Applied Art, the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum, and the Museum of Folk Art.
