Born in 1915 in the village of Gora, Anna Kotukhina began studying in 1930 at a techincal school, then switched to teh Palekh Art School. She graduated in 1940, having studied under P.L. Parilov, N.M. Zinoviev, A.V. Kotukhin and E. Pankov. She painted many copies of I.I. Golikov's works, and was also involved in mural painting and stage painting. She directed the painting of frescoes of the "Ruslan" cinema in Pushkino, 1970-1971; frescos of the Concert Hall of the Rossiya Hotel in Moscow, 1970s; of the hospital "Malyshok" in Lomy, Ivanovo Region, 1980s; of the Krasnaya Talka sanatorium in Gelenjik, Krasnodar Territory, 1984; sketches of scenery for Liadov's ballet "The Dead Tsarevna" for the Leningrad Maly Opera Theater, 1949; skethces of custumes for the Russian part of the concert program of the Leningrad ballet company "Choreographic Miniatures" directed by L. Yakobson, 1971-1972.
For her extensive work in lacquer miniature and other art forms, Anna Kotukhina has been awarded titles and prizes. She has been a member of the Artists' Union since 1944. She became a People's Art Worker in 1957, and is a winner of the Repin State Prize of the RSFSR. She was awarded People's Artist of the USSR in 1974, and Merited Artist of the USSR in 1985.
Themes of her work include folklore, literature and contemporary subjects. Titles were such as "The Attack", "The Birch Tree", "The Cavalry Passes Through Centuries", and "The Lay of Igor's Campaign". Kotukhina has exhibited since 1940, and her works are now held in the State Museum of Palekh Art, the All-Russia Museum of Decorative and Applied Art, the Ivanovo Regional Art Museum, and the Zagorsk State Historico-Art Museum-Preserve.
