He considers his work to be finished when a miniature is approved by the Art Council or an exhibition's commission.

Nikolay uses in painting warm as well as cold tones depending on a chosen theme. Quiet often he applies in work his personal painting techniques.
Boxes painted by Malakhov N.V. are easily recognizable by bright individuality and uniqueness; and almost all of them are original authoring works.
Malakhov often visits the State Museum of Palekh Art where he can study painting techniques of old masters and contemporary artists. Works by Golikov I.I., Kotukhin A.V. and other founders of Palekh Art had a great influence on formation of his painting style.
Nikolay likes to spend his free time in the country and work in his garden.
The artist wishes to all amateurs of the art of lacquered miniature the following: "Lets respect the Art of lacquered miniature and try to study it in order to distinguish true Masterpieces of Palekh Art from forgery!"
