Populov Yevgeny Anatoliyevich was born in 1958 in the village of Veselovka, Chelyabinsk Region. Now the artist resides in the village of Palekh, Ivanovo Region.
In 1982 Yevgeny Anatoliyevich graduated from the Palekh Art School. His teachers were B.M. Nemtinov, Yu.A. Brovkin, V.M. Astakhov, N.M. Smirnov, T.I. Belousova, V.T. Kotov. His graduation project was the miniature “Russian craftsmen”.
Y.A. Populov's original works are "The Tale of Tsar Saltan" (1989, casket), "Ruslan and Ludmila" (1994), "Sadko" (1990), "The Tale of Sleeping Princess" (1997).
Yevgeny Anatoliyevich is rewarded with the diploma of the USSR Ministry of Culture and with the badge “For achievements in the field of lacquered miniature painting. Participated in exhibitions since 1988.
The artist paints his works in the traditions of Palekh lacquered miniature using tempera paints. He prefers to depict landscapes, bylinas, Pushkin's fairy tales and historic subjects.
Yevgeny Anatoliyevich thinks the most important elements in his artworks are clarity of drawing, expressiveness of image and harmony of color combinations.
Beginning to paint a new miniature, the artist intents to create something new and original on the basis of Palekh traditions and also tries to improve the quality of painting. Finishes working, when all his artistic ideas and tasks are realized.
Yevgeny Anatoliyevich prefers to use in painting bright, mellow tones, but mainly a color choice depends on the artist’s mood. He thinks his works are notable for clarity of drawing, coloring and thinness of painting.
Works by such famous Palekh artists as I. Golikov, A. Dydykin, A. Vatagin, I. Livanova, V. Zotov, A. Kochupalov had a great influence on the artist’s creativity.
In his free time the artist builds his new house in the village, works in the kitchen-garden and strolls in the forest with a rifle.
