Schepotyev Mikhail Nikolaevich was born in 1949 in the village of Kazaki, Lipetsk Region. Now he resides in the village of Palekh, Ivanovo Region.
In 1972 Mikhail finished the Palekh Art School. His teachers were Astakhov V.I., Golov V.I, Vikhrev N.F., Semaikin K.S., Brovkin N.A. The diploma work of Schepotyev M.V. was the box “Bayan” (kind of accordion) painted on a historical theme.
Schepotyev is rewarded with the honorary Diploma given by the administration of the RSFSR Art Fund. His works are kept in the State Museum of Palekh Art and also in private collections of the USA, Germany and Holland.
At present the artist works at the cooperative society “Union of Palekh Artists”.
Mikhail is a many-sided artist, aside from working in the lacquer miniature field, he has the ability of a master icon painter. In his work he uses different styles of painting for instance the style of the Stroganov School of icon painting, the style of Safonov icon painting, the style of Novgorod icon painting and certainly the style of Palekh lacquered miniature. Themes of his works are fairy-tales, landscapes and history.
Mikhail paints his works mostly in warm tones. Most of all he prefers to use red color and its shades.
Works by Schepotyev can be easily recognizable owing to peculiar painting technique and splendid filigree patterns.
Painting of such famous Palekh painters as Golikov I.I., Zubkov A.I., Markichev I.V., Khodov V.M., Kochupalov A.D., Ann O.V. had a great influence on the artist’s Art.
In his free time Mikhail likes to fish, cook and also he is a numismatist; collecting of coins is his favorite hobby.
