Smirnov Vasily Nikolaevich
Was born in 1927 in the village of Babino located in the Ivanovskaya region.
Member of the USSR Union of Artists since 1957. Merited Artist of the RSFSR (1985).
Smirnov studied at the Palekh Art School (1945-1950).
Worked at the Palekh Art Workshops (1950-1987).
Worked as a director of the Palekh Art Workshops (1971-1974).
Smirnov was engaged in theatrical, monumental and furniture painting. He participated in the restoration of the Varnished Room of the "Mon Plaisir", pavilion at Peterhof (1956-1959).
Smirnov's favorite themes are folklore, literature, genre scenes ("Folk beauty", "Mikula Selyaninovich", "Distant bon-fires", "Collective farm chastooshki" (chastooshka - two-line or four-line folk verse, usually humorous and topical, sung in a lively manner).
Participant of different exhibitions since 1955.
His works are exhibited in the State Museum of Palekh Art and the State Russian Museum of Ethnography.
