Mikhail Komarov, one of the best artists from the village of Kholui, created this beautiful box. It features the ancient Russia. In this work the artist has managed to express his admiration for a quiet splendor of old Russia. The composition shows legendary ancient worrior Svyatogor protecting and observing Motherland from the top of his native Holy Mountain. He is the strongest Russian Bogatyr, who always suffered from his strength. He suffers because his strength increases everyday, and there is no man in the world who could compete with him in strength. In the end Svyatogor dies, as he can't compete with the Earth, and the Earth can't bear this huge and heavy bogatyr. But his image and name remained in folk tale as images of strong an gentle protector of people and all Russian lands. To the left from bogatir the artist presents the figures of two kids, which looking at Svyatogor with respect and hope. Under him we can see splendid scene of town, which is symbol of all Russian city, brotected by Mighty Warrior.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge above the composition and rests on a flat bottom.
