Once upon a time, there lived a goat with seven kids. Every day the goat went to the forest to eat succulent grass. The kids locked the house and didn't go out till their mother came back. The goat came back, knocked and sang:
"My little kids, open the door,
Your mother has come to feed you with milk,
Milk is running along my udder,
Flowing out of my udder it's running along my hoof,
Flowing off my hoof it's running onto the earth."
The kids unlocked the door and let their mother in. The goat fed the kids, gave them milk to drink and left again.
Once a wolf overheard the goat's singing, ran to the house and began to sing in a deep voice:
"My little kids, open the door,
Your mother has come to feed you with milk,
My hooves are full of water"
The kids didn't open the door, because their mother sang in a thin voice and her song was different. So the wolf went to a smithy and a smith reforged his throat.
The goat returned home from the forest and the kids told her that the wolf had come and wanted to eat them. The goat fed the kids and ordered them: "Don't open the door to anybody who will sing in a deep voice and who won't be able to repeat all the words of my song."
The wolf came to the house again and began lamenting in a thin voice:
"My little kids, open the door,
Your mother has come to feed you with milk,
Milk is running along my udder,
Flowing out of my udder it's running along my hoof,
Flowing off my hoof it's running onto the earth."
The kids opened the door, the wolf bursted into in the house and ate all of them except one who could hide itself behind the stove. The goat came back home and didn't find anybody there except the kid who could hide itself behind the stove. The goat began to grieve for its kids and mourn for them. The wolf heard her crying and said, "I haven't eaten your kids. Don't cry. Let's go in the forest to take a stroll."
There was a big hole in the forest and a bonfire was burning in that hole. The goat exclaimed: "Wolf, lets compete. Whichever of us who can jump over this hole will win the competition. The wolf agreed and they began to jump. The goat easily jumped over the hole, but the wolf couldn't and fell down in the burning hole. The wolf's belly burst from the fire and the kids jumped out all alive and rushed to their mother. Since that time the goat and her kids have lived happily in their house.
