The moss covered walls of the medieval castle. The heat scorched earth in front of the pilgrim's tent. The air conditioned casing of museum security. The Tree of Life represents one of the oldest spiritual symbols in human history, predating Christianity and Islam. The Tree of Life links mankind to various heavenly worlds that have been a part of cultures from Europe to the Orient. In the world of Islam predominantly, the Tree of Life retains a religious significance, symbolizing the path between heaven, earth, and the underworld.
The symbolism that pertains to the Tree of Life is one of the most important facets of the Qabbalah. This is medieval system that has received modern attention. It is in fact Jewish theory that is defined by a belief in creation through emanation and a combination of symbolic letters which interprets ancient scripture. The Tree of Life explains that the origination of the world is linked to a series of descending attributes from the God-like figure and through intermediate stages into matter.
To simplify, all attributes in a positive and a negative sense are sifted until a specific pattern comes to terms with another pattern on the Earth plane, thus evolving into matter. The Tree of Life contains eleven spheres:
One-KETER, that includes GOD, INFINITE LIGHT & WISDOM, TOTAL & SUPREME CONSCIOUSNESS.
Two-CHOHMAN, that includes MALE YANG ENERGIES, PURE ENERGY, and SPIRITUAL FORCE.
Three-BINAH, that includes YIN ENERGY, COMPASSION, PURE LOVE & UNDERSTANDING and THE COSMIC MOTHER.
Four-CHESED, that includes THE RULER, MAJESTY, POWER & AUTHORITY and the CONSOLIDATOR OF THINGS.
Five-GEBURAH, that includes THE WARRIOR, MARS, STRENGTH, JUSTICE and PHYSICAL POWER.
Six-TIPERETH, that includes THE SUN, HARMONY, BEAUTY, PERFECTION, UNITY and CREATION.
Seven-NEDZACH, that includes THE LOVER, VENUS, ART, CREATIVITY INSPIRATION & EROTIC SPIRITUALITY.
Eight-HOD, that includes THE INTELLECT, MERCURY and COMMUNICATION.
Nine-YESOD, that includes THE MOON, VISION & DEEP MEMORY, THE CYCLES IN & AROUND US and ILLUSION.
Ten-MALKUTH, that includes PHYSICAL REALITY, DEATH, PAIN, and HEALING.
Eleven-DAATH, that includes THE ABYSS, RANDOM CHAOS OF THOUGHT and CONCEPTION.
After some consideration, many sociologists, scientists and psychologists agree on one important fact regarding the Tree of Life. We are all made up of multiple ingredients that make us the person that we are at birth and the person that we eventually become.
